LIRR running extra trains for New Year's Eve celebration

WOODBURY - Officials say if you plan on heading to Times Square tonight to leave the car at home.

Most of the roads in midtown will be closed to traffic so the LIRR is running 17 extra westbound trains and 114 extra eastbound trains. Officials say all alcoholic beverages are banned from the trains, platforms and stations.

Nassau and Suffolk police say if you plan on partying, don't drink and drive.

Taxi companies on Long Island are offering free rides home tonight, including Lindy's in Suffolk County.

In Nassau County, officials are offering free bus rides. Restaurants Against Drunk Drivers is offering to bring partiers to restaurants and bars on Hempstead Turnpike, Old County Road and Jericho Turnpike.
