LIRR ridership up to nearly 82M for 2012
WOODBURY - Long Island Rail Road ridership was on the rise last year, despite the problems caused by Hurricane Sandy.
Nearly 82 million people rode the rails in 2012 and the LIRR says it expects those numbers to rise again this year.
Officials say millions of rides were lost in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. However, the popularity of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn helped boost the railroad's numbers.
