MINEOLA - LIRR commuters expecting to get off at the Mineola station last night were in for a surprise when the train skipped their stop. Riders say the 6:08 p.m. eastbound train out of Hunters Point Avenue that was scheduled to stop at Mineola just kept on going. The engineer eventually stopped in Carle Place, and some riders say they had to board another train to get home. LIRR officials say the engineer was working a different assignment than normal, but that he still should have stopped. Passengers say they were delayed about 20 minutes when waiting for the next westbound train at Carle Place.
