WANTAGH - The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) will operate on a reduced schedule for the Thursday morning commute, as crews continue to repair track damage due to a derailment in an East River tunnel.

LIRR officials say 22 trains will be canceled, terminated or diverted, representing the same schedule used during the Wednesday morning rush. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time and expect scattered 10-20 minute delays.

Thursday marks the fourth day of cancelations and delays after the Amtrak derailment on Sunday, but officials say there is a light at the end of the tunnel, with full service expected to resume Friday morning.

Amtrak owns the East River tunnels and shares them with the LIRR. The tunnels are the only way for trains to get in and out of Penn Station.
