LIRR: Derailment will impact commute through Friday

BABYLON - The Long Island Rail Road is warning customers of cancellations due to a train derailment that happened near Jamaica on Monday.

Officials say crews are still working on repairing the extensive damage done to about a half-mile of track. According to officials, thousands of ties need to be replaced.

The railroad expects repairs to last through the end of the week.

This morning there were 11 canceled trains and a number of diversions.
