WANTAGH - LIPA is working to restore power after they say the heat caused hundreds of power outages in Nassau County.

Officials say at the height of the outages, power was out to as many as 2,500 customers mostly in Wantagh, Levittown, Huntington and Oyster Bay.

Some residents in Wantagh say their power has been going off and on for last two days, but came back on tonight at 9 p.m.

The power company says the overwhelming load of electricity due to today's heat caused wires to burn out.

LIPA says they hope to restore power sometime overnight.
