FIRE ISLAND - The Long Island Power Authority cut power to Fire Island Saturday ahead of Hurricane Irene.

LIPA officials say the outages affect Fire Island, Oak Beach, Robert Moses and Captree. They say the area was de-energized ahead of the storm to make it easier to re-power once Irene passed.

LIPA officials say there were no intentional outages planned for mainland Long Island, stressing that the controlled outages were limited just to the barrier beaches.LIPA- to report an outage call: 1-800-490-0075LIPA Outage MapEvacuation InformationNews 12 Weather CenterEmergency Info
