WEST ISLIP - Some West Islip residents are outraged that LIPA went ahead with a project to install dozens of utility poles throughout the town without getting the necessary permits ahead of time. After hearing complaints from residents, the Town of Islip issued a stop work order last night, but this morning, News 12 Long Island witnessed LIPA workers installing another pole.Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan says he didn't know anything about the size and extent of the pole project until last week, when homeowners started calling his office."Lots of things happen in this town without me knowing every detail," he says. In a statement, LIPA said it believes it's legally able to continue with the project without obtaining permits, but it is now looking at other alternatives.
