BAY SHORE - Long Island residents and businesses are now beginning to take advantage of a slew of potentially money-saving rebate offers.

The Long Island Power Authority's (LIPA) residential-efficiency programs are offering homeowners rebates on light bulbs, solar panels and even free or low-cost home energy audits.

LIPA says it's spending millions to get customers to reduce their energy use because new power plants can cost billions.

"We would much rather be investing in energy efficiency than a new power plant," says Michael Deering, LIPA's vice president of Environmental Affairs.
