LIPA customers frustrated despite utility's promise of power

Long Islanders who are still in the dark are frustrated with LIPA, despite the company's most recent claim that it'll have 93 percent of customers

HICKSVILLE - Long Islanders who are still in the dark are frustrated with LIPA, despite the company's most recent claim that it'll have 93 percent of customers back online by tomorrow night. Residents say the frustration goes beyond living without power. They say they get no response when they call LIPA for answers, further fueling their anger. Officials say LIPA has restored about 80 percent of Long Beach's power. Residents say they understand they won't have power fully restored as quickly, given the amount of devastation. Communities in the middle of Long Island, like Roslyn Heights, faced less damage than Long Beach. Still, the area is littered with downed trees, power outages and many angry LIPA customers. Customers tell News 12 Long Island that the utility must be restructured from the ground up and that the latest promise of power is unacceptable.
