LINDENHURST - LIPA says it will no longer require inspections for homes without flood damage before it will restore power.

Prior to this announcement, the utility said all homes in flood zones would have to be inspected before the power would be turned back on. This requirement led to fear by many that it could be weeks before some homes would have their power restored, despite there being no damage.

Towns will now hand over a list of neighborhoods that were never flooded or had already been inspected and are ready for power restoration.

Officials say that homes that do not have their power yet should switch off their main breaker and that firefighters will be on site when power is restored to each neighborhood in case of emergency.
