PLAINVIEW - A Long Island woman says she witnessed the chaos and carnage of the Boston Marathon bombings up close.

Linda Ottaviano says she was headed to the Boston Marathon finish line to watch her friend cross when the explosions occurred.

"I thought it was the finish line structure falling down," Ottaviano says. "And then there was another enormous crash."

After the initial shock, Ottaviano says everyone was calm but dazed, wondering what had just happened.

Two hours passed before Ottaviano was reunited with her friend. She says she worried the whole time that her friend was among the wounded.

Ottaviano has run in the Boston Marathon three times, but chose not to run this year. She says she will never forget the calm professionalism of the emergency workers and volunteers.
