Limited LIRR service returns to Long Beach

LONG BEACH - As of this morning, diesel trains started running again with limited hourly, rush-hour service between Long Beach and Lynbrook.

Off-peak trains will run every two hours.

This morning, crews will update repairs to the damaged electrical third rail.

Power is back in parts of Long Beach and students returned to school yesterday for the first time since Sandy.

The Long Beach Post Office and some businesses and supermarkets are also open again.
