LIers trying to beat the heat as temps get dangerously hot

BABYLON - ? Long Islanders are trying to beat the heat as temperatures got dangerously hot and humid today.

A heat advisory will be in effect until 9 p.m. tonight with temperatures expected to be between 90 and 102.

Officials are warning residents not to do anything strenuous due to the heat.

Cooling centers have opened across Long Island. The Town of Hempstead has opened its 12 senior centers as cooling centers. In addition, Oyster Bay has opened its William Bennett Hicksville Community Center on W. Carl Street in Hicksville.

Also, all Town of Oyster Bay Pools will remain open until 10 p.m. tonight due to the heat. The town is canceling activities on their athletic fields until 7 p.m. This includes baseball, softball, tennis, basketball and handball.
