WOODBURY - Long Islanders marked this Labor Day with plans for beach trips, boat outings and barbecues, but the weather wasn?t at its finest. The unofficial last day of summer saw cloudy skies and passing showers, but that didn?t stop people from heading out to the beach.

New York State Parks Director Susan Guliani says 300,000 more people visited Jones Beach this summer over last. Long Islanders traveling on weekend getaways saw some of the highest gas prices ever recorded for Labor Day. Today, the average gas price on the Island was about $4.05, up from $3.99 last year. In the Hamptons, drivers could pay as much as $4.29 per gallon.News 12 LI Weather CenterNews 12 LI Traffic CenterWatch News 12 Traffic & Weather LIVE
