WOODBURY - Incumbent Gregory Meeks won the Democratic primary in the 5th Congressional District as Long Islanders voted in three primary races Tuesday.

Tom Suozzi won the Democratic primary in the 3rd Congressional District against some heavy hitters vying to run for Rep. Steve Israel's seat. The five-way race also included Jon Kaiman, Steve Stern, Jonathan Clarke and Anna Kaplan. Israel is retiring after this year.

In the 1st Congressional District, which Democrats lost in 2014, Anna Throne-Holst, the former Southampton town supervisor, and Dave Calone, a Setauket businessman, were neck and neck with virtually all of the votes in Tuesday night.

Both have 50 percent of the vote, but Throne-Holst is ahead by just 26 votes. The winner will run against first-term Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin.

Democrats lost three Congressional seats in New York in 2014, and now the House has Washington's largest Republican majority in decades.

Democrats hope to elect candidates strong enough to take back some of the Congressional seats in November.

Meanwhile, two Republicans fighting for Israel's Congressional seat are taking their battle to court. Philip Pidot and state Sen. Jack Martins will be in federal court Wednesday. Martins was chosen by the party to run in the 3rd Congressional District. However, Pidot filed a suit asking for a new primary date to challenge Martins.

A judge ruled Pidot had more than enough signatures to run in a primary, but there wasn't enough time to get his name on Tuesday's ballot.
