BETHPAGE - Some lucky Long Islanders got the keys to cheap cars today at a police auction held in Bethpage. The Nassau District Attorney's Office auctioned off 82 vehicles that were seized following felony convictions for crimes such as drunken driving, robbery and tax fraud. The most prized car to be auctioned was a 2007 Bentley that sold for $49,500. Among the other cars were Hondas, Ford Explorers and Mercedes.
All the proceeds will go to the county and state to be used as restitution for victims, and for anti-drug and crime-reduction programs, officials say.
