The LIE reopened this morning after being closed in both directions over the weekend. (February 11, 2013)

The Long Island Expressway has been reopened in both directions in Suffolk County after a 24-hour shutdown.

A massive fleet of payloaders and plows worked throughout the night to get the roadway cleared.

Sunrise Highway was reopened in Suffolk yesterday, but police are warning drivers that the road remains very icy.

The Expressway and other Suffolk roads were littered with abandoned cars after the wet, heavy snow clogged up roadways.

A third of New York State’s snow removal equipment was sent to Long Island, according to Gov. Cuomo, after some areas got pounded with up to 30 inches of snow.
