BAY SHORE - A Bay Shore woman says she is fighting an uphill battle with her insurance company over a throat-slashing incident.

Police say Daphne Beard's throat was slit by her estranged husband, Carl Beard, inside their home back in May. Investigators say the couple's children, ages 11 and 13, witnessed the slashing.

Authorities say Carl changed his clothes after the attack and ran down the street. They say he was hit and killed by a car trying to cross the Sagtikos Parkway moments later.

Beard says she is begging her insurance company to pick up the $20,000 bill to help pay to clean up stains left by the incident.
