WOODBURY - A Long Islander who made history with the Tuskegee Airmen has passed away.

Major Victor Terrelonge, 88, of Roosevelt was a pioneer and died Monday.

Terrelonge was part of the first African American military unit to fly missions during World War II.

Fellow Tuskegee Airman Lt. Bill Wheeler says Terrelonge passed away at Nassau University Medical Center after a stroke.
