MOUNT SINAI - Police arrested a teacher from Mount Sinai yesterday for allegedly having inappropriate physical contact with a female student.
Investigators say 35-year-old Felipe Argueta, who teaches Spanish at Eastport-South Manor Junior Senior High School, had inappropriate relations with a girl in March.
In a statement, officials at the Eastport-South Manor School District say they looked into the matter and suspended Argueta on April 15.
The district wouldn't clarify whether Argueta was fired or placed on paid leave.
Neighbors describe the 35-year-old teacher as a friendly man who has young children of his own. Some students at Eastport-South Manor Junior Senior High School also say Argueta was a likeable teacher.
Argueta is expected to be arraigned on child endangerment charges Aug. 9.
