LI residents hit the stores for Black Friday deals

WESTBURY - Many Long Islanders left the Thanksgiving table a bit early this year to hop on long lines outside big box stores offering Black Friday deals.

Outside the Best Buy store in Westbury, the line of bundled-up shoppers stretched around the corner, including some in tents. Mohammed Farooq, of Floral Park, has been waiting in line since 6 a.m. on Wednesday, which has earned him the No. 1 spot.

"I'm getting a $600 TV for $200 - it's worth it," he says.

The early start to Black Friday has come with concerns regarding security following an incident three years ago when a Walmart employee was trampled to death in Valley Stream.

Since then, many stores beefed up security measures and improved communications with shoppers.
