LI parkways shuttered; drivers urged to avoid LIE

State police say all parkways in Nassau and Suffolk counties have been shut down as of 8 p.m. due to the high probability of fallen

WOODBURY - State police say all parkways in Nassau and Suffolk counties have been shut down as of 8 p.m. due to the high probability of fallen trees and debris blocking traffic. The affected roadways include the Southern State, Northern State, Meadowbrook, Ocean, Loop, Wantagh, Sagtikos/Sunken Meadow, Robert Moses and Bethpage parkways. The parkways will remain closed until further notice and police say motorists who must travel will have to use alternate routes.Nassau Executive Ed Mangano has ordered all of the county's roadways closed as well.The LIE remains open, although drivers are being urged to avoid it due to treacherous conditions.

All of the major bridges off of the Island have also been closed until further notice.Service on the LIRR remains suspended as well.For all the latest information on Long Island's roadways and transit systems, watch News 12 Traffic & Weather LIVE.
