RONKONKOMA - Out of the hundreds who attended the Long Island Job Finder Job Fair Tuesday afternoon, many agree that Congress should be extending unemployment benefits to those out of work.

Republicans and Democrats in Congress are debating whether to extend so-called long-term unemployment benefits for 26 weeks. The Senate voted today to end debate on the issue and put forth a bipartisan bill that would extend long-term benefits for three more months.

While some have told News 12 that they are in favor of letting the benefits expire in an effort to motivate job seekers, many at the fair said that they hope an extension is agreed upon soon.

Long-term unemployment benefits expired at the end of December.

The fair, held at the Clarion Hotel in Ronkonkoma, was attended by close to 40 businesses searching for new hires.
