HICKSVILLE - With temperatures dipping into the single digits across Long Island, the homeless population is attempting to find areas to stay warm.

News 12 Long Island caught up with four homeless people in Hicksville last night, who found shelter at a cab stand. They say one of their close friends died Wednesday morning due to exposure, however authorities have not confirmed the death.

They told News 12 that they refused to go to homeless shelters for a number of reasons, including bedbugs.

The four say that they will move from warm place to warm place in order to stay ahead of police.

Anyone that comes across a homeless person in need of a place to stay can call 1-866-WARMBED. A cab will be sent to take them to a shelter.

Temperatures this morning are in the single digits and are expected to reach only 22 degrees.
