The Long Island Ducks may be getting some cross-county competition after County Executive Ed Mangano (R-Nassau) announced plans to bring a new minor league baseball

UNIONDALE - The Long Island Ducks may be getting some cross-county competition after County Executive Ed Mangano (R-Nassau) announced plans to bring a new minor league baseball team to the Coliseum.

Mangano revealed the new Nassau Coliseum plans yesterday, which includes a new ballpark. He said that Long Island Ducks owner Frank Boulton has been tapped to create a team similar to the Ducks and in the same independent Atlantic League.

The plan is another aspect of the $400 million state-of-the-art sports and entertainment destination center that would replace the current Coliseum. The minor league stadium would be located at Mitchel Field in Uniondale, across the street from the proposed New York Islanders arena.

Nassau residents will vote on whether they'll foot the bill for the project Aug. 1. If approved, the legislature and the Nassau Interim Finance Authority (NIFA) will still need to give it the green light.
