NORTH BELLPORT - A champion boxer from Long Island is making his returning debut in the ring after surviving a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Adam Willet, of North Bellport, will take on his first opponent this Thursday since being shot back in April.

Police say Willet was shot while trying to defend two girls who were being harassed outside of a North Bellport deli.

They say two men have been charged in connection with the attack.

The 28-year-old was an alternate on the 2008 U.S. Olympic team.
