WANTAGH - Thousands kicked off the unofficial start of summer with a sizzling day at Long Island's beaches today.

?It's a beautiful day, Memorial Day, weather perfect, the temperature is right, can't be in a better place than Jones Beach right now,? says Charlie Lewis, who came from The Bronx to spend the holiday at Jones Beach.

Though Tropical Depression Beryl is still far south, state park officials say Long Island's beaches are still feeling its effects in the form of rough surf.

Earlier this weekend, hundreds of thousands packed Jones Beach to watch the annual Bethpage Federal Credit Union Air Show.
