HEMPSTEAD - Long Island residents struggling to save their homes from foreclosure have some new help available to them.Banks are inviting customers facing foreclosure to speak with mortgage specialists, who can individually review their cases and see if they qualify to renegotiate their mortgages.Today, Chase specialists were at the Hempstead branch, helping customers through their modification applications and reviewing whether options other than foreclosure are available to them.The new effort comes after protesters nationwide said banks weren't doing enough to help people who are financially struggling.
