HAUPPAUGE - County Executive Steve Levy (R-Suffolk) is calling on New York lawmakers to follow the footsteps of other states and put a limit on the collection of welfare benefits.

Levy says the county can't afford to pay for all the people currently on welfare and that the costs are crushing taxpayers. His solution is to cut off benefits after five years, but that idea isn't sitting well with many who depend on public assistance.

Some residents argue that not only are jobs lacking because of the economy, but some families are already working two jobs and still need the extra help.
