Levittown man accused of leading police on cross-county chase

PLAINVIEW - A Levittown man is facing a slew of traffic and drug charges after he led police on a chase today that began in Suffolk and ended in Nassau, authorities say. Police say they attempted to pull over 23-year-old William Girardin just after 11 a.m. near exit 55 on the eastbound side of the Long Island Expressway. When the officer approached the car, he took off and headed west, police say.Authorities say Girardin got off the highway at exit 46 for Sunnyside Boulevard. There, he tried to pass between two cars stopped at a red light, but side-swiped both cars, according to officials. He was stopped and arrested shortly after. Girardin had marijuana on him and has been charged with driving while ability impaired, investigators say. They say the license plates on the car didn't match the vehicle and the registration was missing from the windshield as well.Girardin is due to be arraigned tomorrow in Central Islip.
