NORTHPORT - After half a century, a living legend in the barber business is packing it in.

Neighborhood barber Richard Pastore told customers Thursday that he is retiring after 52 years. Most people in the area know about Oscar's Barber Shop, where haircuts cost $3.50. Pastore has been charging the same price since he started the business in 1962.

People who stopped to say goodbye had nothing but nice things to say to the 69-year-old barber, including the town's mayor. The barbershop was located a few doors down the street from its current space until about 20 years ago.

Pastore has two children and three grandchildren. He says he plans to travel with his wife during his retirement.
