WOODBURY - ? Thousands of state workers may be able to keep their jobs.

Officials say the layoff date for 3,500 workers has been moved to Nov. 4.

The extension gives union members time to approve a new proposed contract that would avoid any layoffs. The deal would freeze wages until 2014 and give them the ability to use vacation time toward their health care contributions.
