WOODBURY - County lawmakers in Nassau and Suffolk have introduced new legislation to prevent long gas lines from forming during the next power outage.Nassau Legislator Dave Dennenberg (D-Merrick) and Suffolk Legislator Steve Stern (D-Dix Hills) want to require all gas stations to have backup energy.

The bill calls for service stations to have a generator or manual override system so they can pump gas during outages that last more than two hours.

The legislators are looking to the state and federal governments to help local businesses pay for the upgrades the bill would require.
