Law enforcement pursuit leads to fatal crash in Sayville

SAYVILLE - The Suffolk County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that one person has died in a crash involving three larceny suspects in Sayville.

Investigators say that Riverhead police began pursuing a vehicle on suspicion of larceny after three suspects, two men and one woman, allegedly stole $4,500 in clothes from True Religion Outlet at Tanger Outlet Center and stopped it at exit 64 of the LIE.

As police approached the vehicle, the driver sped away, with Suffolk Sheriff?s deputies taking over the pursuit, headed south on Route 112 and then west on the Sunrise Highway north service road.

According to investigators, the vehicle crashed into another car at the Lincoln Avenue intersection. They say one passenger, an elderly woman, in that car was killed.

The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The three people in the car that was being pursued were arrested and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
