SYOSSET - The last remaining residents of a Syosset mobile park were scrambling Monday to pack up their belongings as their deadline to move out came and went.

As News 12 has reported, residents of the park were ordered out following a lengthy battle with STP Associates, the company that bought the land in 2007. The park is being leveled to build new apartments, condos and businesses.

On Monday, most of Dawn St. Clair's possessions were outside of her mobile home in plastic bins in the snow and mud, making it difficult to pack. She and her family had lived in the home for eight years.

"I told the landowner to give me a couple of days, but they really don't want to work with me," she said. "They threatened to cut off the electric, which is scary because my neighbor is on an oxygen machine."

That neighbor, Robert Carmen, said he was threatened that the sheriff would come evict him.

Homes in the park are being boarded up, but St. Clair and Carmen say they just need a few more days to finish packing up. They have both found places to live upstate.

STP Associates said it had no comment.
