MERRICK - The Lafkas family is devastated after their beloved dog went missing during a home burglary.

Police say a thief or thieves went in through the Merrick Avenue home's basement window and took a flat screen TV, iPad, jewelry and an Xbox.

It is unclear if the family dog, named Cookie, was taken or went out the front door. Cookie is a 2-year-old black and white Bichon Shih Tzu mix.

Gus Lafkas says his children, 8-year-old John and 11-year-old Christina, are devastated over the loss of their first pet.
