UPTON - Students at this year's Middle School Maglev Contest tested their imaginations and created what may turn out to be the transportation of the future.

Three students from Northport Middle School built a lightweight vehicle capable of floating on tracks using magnets, while another team created a vehicle that sails down a wind tunnel.

The young engineers worked on their vehicles for several weeks in technology classes before presenting them in today's competition at Brookhaven Lab.

Robert Moses Middle School students walked away with the most prizes.
