Kids kicked out of school over booster shots

NORTH BABYLON - Parents say nearly 60 students were kicked out of a North Babylon school because they didn't get their booster shots.

One parent, Rose Hangul, says she is now scrambling to find a doctor or clinic that has the Tdap vaccine for her 16-year-old son. The Tdap shot immunizes against diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough. Hangul's son was one of 56 students kicked out of North Babylon High School yesterday because their immunization records weren't up to date.

The North Babylon School District says it sent parents a notice in early November and left an automated message before Thanksgiving. A district spokeswoman admits it's an unusual move to ban the students from school for incomplete vaccines, but it is allowed under state law.

The district says as of today, only nine students still need the shots.
