BAY SHORE - The man who kidnapped Katie Beers and kept her in a Bay Shore dungeon has been found dead in his prison cell.

The news of John Esposito's death comes just one day after the notorious Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro took his own life.

Esposito was found dead in his prison cell in upstate Sing Sing. Officials are saying that they believe Esposito, 63, died of natural causes.

News 12 Long Island's Christine Insinga sat down with Beers, who said she has no emotions at all about Esposito.

"He was dead to me a long time ago so really this is the finalization of everything," Beers said.

Esposito's death happened on the same day that he had a hearing to find out if he was being set free after 20 years.

Esposito abducted Beers 20 years ago when she was 9 years old. He kept her in a small underground dungeon in his backyard in Bay Shore for 17 days.

Beers, now 30, wrote a book telling her story and offered advice to the three Ohio women who Castro kidnapped.

Beers has been living in Pennsylvania for 12 years. She is a wife, a mom and is working on becoming an inspirational speaker.

Esposito was serving a term of 15 years to life for the kidnapping. Authorities are still investigating his death, though they do not believe it is suspicious.
