HEMPSTEAD - A mistrial has been declared in the case of a mother accused of attacking a teacher at her child's school.

As News 12 has reported, video shows Annika McKenzie, of Hempstead, before she allegedly punched and choked middle school teacher Catherine Engelhardt. The teacher passed out in the hallway last year.

McKenzie's lawyer claimed that the teacher pushed McKenzie's daughter with a lacrosse stick earlier while controlling a hallway of students.

The jury found McKenzie not guilty of criminal trespassing Monday afternoon, but jurors were deadlocked on other charges including harassment and assault.

The district attorney’s office has not yet commented on the mistrial.

McKenzie would have faced up to seven years in prison if convicted.
