SOUTHAMPTON - A judge has ordered Southampton to remove signs declaring town hall a "bias-free zone."

Deacon James Boyd says he and others from the Southampton Full Gospel Church were denied their right to protest against same-sex marriage in 2011. Protesters say that town police ordered them off the stairs of town hall and told them they were breaking the law by protesting in a bias-free zone.

The incident prompted protesters to file a lawsuit against the town. Last week, a judge ruled that the signs were unconstitutional and ordered the town to immediately remove them.

The town shelled out $40,000 in taxpayer money to cover the church's legal fees as part of the settlement.
