THE BRONX - A federal judge has granted class-action status to a lawsuit filed against the NYPD's Operation Clean Halls in The Bronx.

The operation allows officers to conduct stop-and-frisks in private buildings if the landlords request it. The judge ruled to have the practice stopped, but then put that order on hold while the city appeals the decision.

The class-action status now paves the way for more people to join the suit.

A broader lawsuit on NYPD stop-and-frisk practices will go to trial next month.
