OAK BEACH - A judge has ruled that an Oak Beach doctor can be held liable in the death of Shannan Gilbert.

Gilbert’s body was found near the Oak Beach home of Dr. Peter Hackett.

Gilbert’s family filed a lawsuit claiming Hackett told Gilbert’s mother he ran a home for “wayward women” and was taking her in.

The suit claims Hackett gave her drugs in connection with her death. Hackett denies being involved.

The ruling means the doctor will have to testify under oath about the last time he saw Gilbert.
