JONES BEACH - Officials say there will be a new Jones Beach pedestrian tunnel this summer.

A project to replace the 83-year-old tunnel is running on schedule and on budget, according to Newsday.

The westbound side of Ocean Parkway is shut down as crews try to complete the $2.5 million project by Memorial Day.

The eastbound side of the parkway will be shut down next month.

The project is not related to Sandy.
