NORTH BELLMORE - A North Bellmore woman is on a crusade to teach about the importance of organ donation.

Jennifer Lentini had a heart transplant when she was 13 years old. Her transplant was a success and has lasted 18 years.

She now needs a new kidney because of all the medicines she's been taking.

She visited the Town of Hempstead Senior Center in Levittown today to discuss how important it is to consider donating organs.

"The wait list here in New York state, we have the highest number of people waiting for organ transplants," she says. "We are 50 out of all the states to actually sign up organ donors."

She will also speak to students at Hofstra University about organ donor awareness on Friday.

To become an organ donor, simply check off a box on your driver's license application.
