WOODBURY - Israel's cabinet has approved a plan to mobilize reservists for a possible ground assault into Gaza following days of rocket attacks against the country.

The conflict began following Israel's assassination of a Hamas military leader. Hamas fired numerous rockets into Israel, prompting Israel to respond with air strikes.

The attacks have left three Israelis and 16 Palestinians dead.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he will do whatever is necessary to protect his people.

The U.S. is urging calm on both sides, but supports Israel's right of self-defense.
