ISLIP - Nine foreclosed and abandoned houses in the Town of Islip will soon be home to first-time home buyers, thanks to an affordable housing lottery. Town Supervisor Tom Crocci today plucked the names of nine qualified buyers out of a drum. A total of 17 applicants who met the qualifications had been vying for the homes. The homes in Bay Shore, Brentwood and Central Islip were renovated with help from federal grant money, which will also subsidize other costs to make them affordable for the new occupants.
