ISLIP - The Town of Islip is facing a massive $26 million budget deficit that officials are blaming on "mismanagement and wasteful spending."The town's budget task force released its assessment today. While pension troubles in Albany and a decline in tax revenue both contributed to the money mess, Supervisor Tom Croci is also blaming the previous Democratic administration for the deficit. Several questionable or wasteful practices contributed to the deficit, town officials say. Among them was the practice of sending street sweepers out for hand-washing and waxing at taxpayers' expense.
