UNIONDALE - Two hockey games were played in Nassau Coliseum today to honor a Nassau officer killed while on duty.

Michael J. Califano, 44, was killed Feb. 4 during a routine traffic stop after officials say a flatbed truck slammed into his patrol car on the LIE. Police say the driver who hit him, John Kaley, fell asleep behind the wheel.

A portion of the proceeds from the day of hockey at Nassau Coliseum will be donated to the Michael J. Califano Memorial Fund, which was set up to help the fallen officer's three sons.
